Custom Printed Paper Food Bags
Printed paper food bags are the open-top bags a counter hands over with a sandwich, a flatbread or a pastry inside. We print them on grease-resistant or kraft stock with your logo across the front, so the bag does the branding while the food stays clean.
What Are Printed Paper Food Bags?
Printed paper food bags are flat or gusseted paper bags, open at the top, made from grease-resistant white, grease-resistant kraft or natural kraft. They hold hot sandwiches, fried snacks, flatbreads and baked goods for carry-out. The print sits on the outside face only; the inside stays plain.

Printed Paper Food Bags Sizes
Standard sizes carry no cutting charge. Any other size is quoted on request; the deli paper size chart lists what each one wraps.
The bag that goes over the counter with your name on it
A paper food bag is the last thing a customer touches before they eat. A pizzeria slides a cheese-topped flatbread into one, like the striped bag in the first photo, and the stripes walk down the street. A bagel shop drops a warm roll into one, as in the third photo, and the band of color at the top shows above the counter.
Sandwich shops, pizzerias, bakeries, food trucks, concession stands and delis all use the same basic bag. Multi-location groups like it because the printed bag looks the same in every store without a sticker step.
Compared with a wrapped sheet, a bag is faster to fill and easier to carry. Compared with a box, it takes less shelf space and weighs less in the trash. If you serve one item per customer, a bag is probably the right format.
Which paper stock keeps a hot sandwich bag dry on the outside?
Grease-resistant white or kraft. A hot sandwich, a slice or a fried snack releases grease within a minute, and plain paper shows it as a dark bloom. The grease-resistant barrier keeps that on the inside so the print and the customer's hand stay clean.
White grease-resistant stock is the pick when color matters. The orange stripes and green script in the first photo need a bright base to read that way. Kraft grease-resistant stock warms every color and hides a mark if one does get through.
Natural kraft without a barrier is fine for bread, bagels and dry pastries. It folds firm and takes white ink well. Avoid it for anything with butter, cheese or oil. The stock guide covering kraft, white and wax goes deeper on each one.
Sizing a food bag: 6 x 8, 7 x 9 or 8 x 12?
Width by height, measured flat. Allow an inch above the food for a single fold at the top.
| Size | Fits | Who orders it |
|---|---|---|
| 6 x 8 | A bagel sandwich, a sandwich half, a pastry, two cookies | Bagel shops, bakeries, coffee bars |
| 7 x 9 | A slice of pizza folded once, a burger with a tall bun, a stuffed flatbread | Pizzerias, burger counters, food trucks |
| 8 x 12 | A footlong sub, a whole flatbread, two slices stacked, a sandwich plus fries | Sub shops, delis, concession stands |
| Custom | Wider gussets for fried chicken, taller bags for baguettes | Quoted on request |
If you sell one main item, size to that and stop. If you sell three, 7 x 9 is the single size that covers the middle of most menus.
Stripes, badges and full-panel color on a paper food bag
A bag has a front panel that stays flat and faces the customer. That is why bags carry bolder art than sheets. Wide stripes, a solid color block down one side like the green panel in the second photo, or a round badge at the top corner all work.
Full color prints on white stocks. One, two or three spot colors print on white or kraft, and white ink is the choice for a dark mark on kraft. Send a Pantone number or a printed sample and the proof matches it.
Keep the main logo in the top half of the front panel. The lower half is behind the food and often folded under in a carry-out sack. Small text, like the block in the third photo, needs enough size to survive absorbent paper; the proof thickens thin strokes. Place your logo on a real stock photo on the Design Your Deli Paper page to check scale before you quote.
How does a printed paper bag cope with steam, grease and a long walk?
Steam: a hot sandwich fogs the inside of a closed bag. Leave the mouth open or fold it once, not twice, so the bread keeps its crust. Grease-resistant stock does not go limp from steam the way plain paper does.
Grease: fried snacks and pizza push grease into the bag within minutes. On grease-resistant stock the outside stays dry for the length of a normal carry-out. On natural kraft it shows through, so do not order kraft for fried items just because it looks rustic.
The long walk: a bag in a carry-out sack takes creasing and rubbing. Soy and water-based inks dry hard on the outside face and take that handling without smudging.
Flat or gusseted paper food bags for your menu
Both styles print the same way. The difference is how they fill and how they sit.
- Flat bag: two panels, lies flat, fills in one motion, best for sandwiches, slices and pastries
- Gusseted bag: side folds open the bottom, stands when full, best for fried chicken, a burger and fries together, or two items stacked
- Serrated mouth: tears the fold clean and looks like a classic deli bag; both styles can have it
- Straight mouth: a cleaner edge for a bag that is folded over and sealed with a sticker
The second photo shows a gusseted bag lying flat so the side fold is visible. The range page for wax paper and food bags compares bags against flat sheets for the same items.
Case counts, shelf space and repeat runs
Bags come flat in cases, bundled, with the size and stock printed on the end of the case. A bundle fits under most counters in a shallow box so staff pull one bag at a time without unpacking the whole case.
Your approved proof stays on file. A repeat run is the size and a quantity, and it goes to press without a new setup unless the art changes. Groups can order one design across several sizes and have the cases split by store.
Set a reorder point from a busy day's count, not a slow one. Bags run out on the weekend you forgot to check. If you also serve cookies, the dry wax paper bags for pastries print from the same file.
What spoils a first order of printed food bags
- Natural kraft for pizza slices. Grease shows in minutes. Go grease-resistant kraft if you want the brown look.
- A logo in the bottom half of the panel. The food hides it. Move it up.
- Stripes that run off the edge without a bleed in the file. Ask for the proof to show the trim.
- Full-color art on kraft. Colors go muddy; use white stock or switch to spot colors.
- Approving the proof without reading the smallest line. The proof thickens fine type; check that it still reads.

Printed Paper Food Bags Questions
The questions we answer most weeks. Pick a topic, open a row.
Which stock should printed paper food bags use for pizza slices?
Grease-resistant white or kraft. A slice releases oil within a minute and plain kraft shows it as a dark patch; the grease-resistant barrier keeps the outside dry.
Are printed paper food bags the same as wax paper bags?
No. Food bags are grease-resistant or natural kraft paper for hot items; wax paper bags are dry wax for pastries and cookies. Both print the same way.
Can a hot burger go straight into a printed paper food bag?
Yes. Use grease-resistant stock and fold the mouth once so steam can escape and the bun stays crisp.
How many colors can a printed paper food bag carry?
Up to three spot colors on white or kraft, or full color on white. White ink is the choice for a mark on kraft.
Can the design cover the whole front of a paper food bag?
Yes. Full-panel stripes, a solid block down one side and edge-to-edge repeats all print. Ask for a bleed in the file and the proof will show the trim.
Is the inside of a printed paper food bag printed?
No. Food-safe soy and water-based inks go on the outside face only, so the surface the food touches stays plain.
What is the minimum order for printed paper food bags?
One thousand bags per size, per print run. Each additional size is a separate run with its own minimum.
Do printed paper food bags come with a free proof?
Yes. After you approve the written quote we send a free PDF proof, changes are free, and printing waits for your written approval.
How are printed food bags paid for?
By invoice after you approve the quote and proof. There is no checkout or card step on the site.
How long until printed paper food bags reach my restaurant?
Four to six business days of production after proof approval, then two to three business days of free tracked delivery to any US address.
Can one printed food bag order be shipped to three stores?
Yes. Give the split by address when you approve the quote and each location gets its own cases at no extra delivery cost.
What if printed food bags arrive with a misprint?
Send photos within 10 days and we reprint or refund the affected bags. The returns and reprints page lists what to include.
